Energy Debt and How to Repay It

We've all been energetically overdrawn!

Just like financial debt, energy debt happens when we consistently spend more energy than we have. We keep pushing, striving, and doing - ignoring the warning signs until our energy bank account is completely empty.

The problem is that unlike financial debt, energy debt can't be fixed with a quick injection of cash. It requires intentional repayment through rest, boundaries, and reconnection to your energy sources.

Most of us are walking around with massive energy deficits without even realizing it. We've normalised exhaustion and glorified burnout to the point where we don't recognize how depleted we actually are!

Here's how to start repaying your energy debt:

  1. Acknowledge the deficit. Take honest stock of your energy levels. Are you constantly tired? Irritable? Finding little joy in things you used to love? These are all signs you're energetically overdrawn.

  2. Stop the bleeding! Before you can repay debt, you need to stop creating more. What energy drains can you eliminate immediately? Which commitments can you release? Who can you ask for help?

  3. Create small energy deposits daily. Think of these as minimum payments on your energy credit card. A 10-minute walk, 5 minutes of deep breathing, or a quick nap can all make micro-deposits into your energy account.

  4. Schedule an energy bankruptcy day. Sometimes you need a full reset. Take an entire day where you have no obligations and do only what feels replenishing. No productivity, no achievements - just restoration.

  5. Rebuild your energy credit score. Once you've started repaying your debt, establish better habits to maintain a healthy energy balance. Learn to recognize your early warning signs of depletion before you go into overdrive.

Just like financial debt carries interest, energy debt compounds over time. The longer you ignore it, the more it will cost you to repay.

The good news is that once you start making regular deposits into your energy account, you'll find your capacity naturally expanding. You'll be able to accomplish more without depleting yourself because you're operating from abundance rather than deficit.

We all know it’s impossible to pour from an empty cup. Repaying your energy debt isn't selfish - it's necessary for sustaining your ability to show up for what matters in your life!
