Self Celebration

This is a wonderful time of the year to celebrate yourself! Self Celebration is about celebrating, acknowledging, and accepting yourself right now.

Honour, invest, and celebrate are three of my favourite actions that I do to support myself.

I honour myself by resting, giving myself the nutrients, the nourishment, and care that I need to be at my best. Food, sleep, rest, and space.

I invest in myself by providing the people and things that I need to feel amazing - think massage, healing, books, teachers, and supplements.

Celebrating ourselves is an odd one. It’s something that doesn’t fit well with our kiwi culture. When I talk to people about self celebration, they look at me sideways! Celebrating yourself is an excellent way to pause, reflect, and delight in what you have been up to.

Start by making a list of what is amazing about you. This is not just what you have achieved. Start the list with what you appreciate about yourself. What you have survived, healed, and grown through. About who you have been to whom. I have been supportive, kind, powerful, fun, curious, emotional, vulnerable, and grateful.

Then add to the list what you have done.

This year, I have spoken at over 60 events, I have written a new book - out in May 2024!

I have written over 80 blogs, launched my new podcast, ran 5 retreats, and started a girl gang!

I have supported and proudly watched my eldest son to start his own business, my youngest son to represent New Zealand at Taekwondo world champs in Finland, my eldest daughter has begun a new career, and my youngest got herself into law school. My husband has grown immensely and changed careers and I have exited a business, done loads of work on my self, and got some new awareness and boundaries along the way!

So much worth celebrating! You can celebrate yourself in many different ways.

Create a ceremony.
Burn old notes and things you no longer need.
Go and watch a sunrise or sunset and contemplate where you are at.

Buy yourself a gift.
Send yourself flowers.
Buy a new plant - to recognise your new growth.

Write yourself a thank you letter.
As some inspiration, here is a letter Snoop Dogg wrote to himself!

“I wanna thank me for believing in me!
For doing all this hard work.
For having no days off.
For never quitting.
For always being a giver.
For giving more than I receive.
For doing more right than wrong.
For being me all the time!”

My wish for you this Christmas is that you take a moment, write yourself a letter, pat yourself on the back, and raise a glass to yourself!

Merry Christmas x
