The Power of Unscheduled Time

Being busy is not a badge of honour! So many of us are proud of our packed schedules, wearing our exhaustion like a crown. We forget the magic that happens in unscheduled moments.
I used to be chronically overbooked. Every minute was allocated, optimised, and squeezed for maximum productivity. My calendar looked like a game of Tetris - blocks of appointments stacked tightly with no breathing room.

Then I had an epiphany: the most energising moments in my life weren't the ones I'd carefully planned. They were the spontaneous conversations, the unexpected detours, the quiet cups of tea where inspiration struck.

Now I deliberately leave spaces in my calendar. I call these "energy pockets" - unscheduled blocks where anything (or nothing) can happen. These pockets allow my mind to wander, my creativity to flourish, and my energy to replenish.

Living with margin means:

  • Having time to notice the small beautiful moments

  • Being available when opportunities arise

  • Allowing space for recovery between commitments

  • Having capacity to help others when needed

  • Giving yourself permission to just be

Your calendar reflects your priorities. When every minute is scheduled, you're telling the universe (and yourself) that you have no room for magic, for restoration, for life's wonderful surprises.

This week, try blocking out some unscheduled time. Start small - maybe 30 minutes. Protect this time like you would any important appointment. Notice how it feels to have space to breathe, to think, to simply exist without an agenda.

ENERGY CLUB UPDATES:

Don't forget there is a new podcast episode every week. This week's episode is about pressing 'pause' on people in your life.

Our new Energy Club space is just around the corner. Over the coming weeks, we will be working on migrating all members to the new space. So keep an eye out for more updates coming your way.
