Energy Effort

Managing your energy is not for the faint-hearted! It's a big job - which is why I think so many people don’t bother. To live well takes effort. And there is this weird 'chicken and egg situation' where you need to make an effort to get energy and you need energy to make an effort!

Ever since I lost my energy at 26 years of age, I have been obsessed with having energy. I had experienced having high energy before I lost mine and was desperate to get it back.

Our energy is constantly changing. It ebbs and flows. We all have moments where we have no energy - my answer to this is just to lie down. Like fast. Just find the closest surface and get horizontal. Lying down is so good for us. We have loads of stories we tell ourselves about lying around. You might believe that it's lazy to lie around. Or that going back to bed is not ok.

I spent last week with two wonderful humans, Neal and Karla. I have known Neal and Karla for a very long time. They are the most amazing people, both obsessed with resting. They are trained contemporary yoga teachers and are obsessed with self-compassion, rest and providing comfort and support to our bodies. They have taught me a lot. I first met them when I took myself to a retreat to learn how to rest! As a high-performance ADHD positive human - being still was very difficult for me.

I knew enough to know that anyone who wants to live a high-performance life needs to be high-performance about everything - including rest. So off I went to learn. To learn how to honour my body, to be kind to myself and to give myself the space and comfort that I was craving.

I am now really good at looking after myself. I have daily and weekly energy activities that I make sure I prioritise to maintain good energy.

For physical energy - I make sure I eat well, stay hydrated, take supplements and have regular massages.

For emotional energy - I create stuff, I talk to people, I try to focus on being kind and generous

For mental energy - I meditate, I plan and tidy things. I use aromatherapy oils to manage my mood and shift my energy levels.

For spiritual energy - I clean my aura in Epsom salts, I check in with my higher self and deliberately make time for silence and space so I can listen to my soul!

Here are two checklists that I made that might help you to make some energy effort!
