Cool Problems

I often get asked if I am tired.

I am often tired. Most of us dashing around as part of the modern human race are. What I don’t do is talk about it. I find it boring! It’s kind of a given. And sharing the fact that you are no good at something as important as putting yourself to bed early and often doesn’t seem like something worth sharing.

One of my best friends had twins at the ripe old age of 45. After a long and incredibly stressful chapter of infertility- these wee girls were the most delightful blessing.

The challenge was doing double duty - 24 hours a day - post-partum while being middle aged!!

I remember phoning her to check how things were going. Her response was “I’m living the dream!!” - throughout the whole time she was extraordinary at reminding herself that while everyday was super hard this was actually something she had wished for, for a very long time!

This week, I was listening to a podcast and a guy shared a quote that someone had shared with him:

“What a privilege to be tired for the work you once begged the universe for.
What a privilege to be overwhelmed by growth you used to dream about.
What a privilege to be challenged by a life you created on purpose.
What a privilege to outgrow things you used to settle for.”

(I have searched everywhere and cannot find the original source!)

I love this as it’s a reminder of how far we have come, how we once wished for the things we now have and how it’s very easy to complain about things in our lives that are blessings!

When I was pregnant with my fourth child, my body felt like a creaky old house. Every time I complained, my midwife would respond- “Pregnancy is a privilege.” She would remind me that this was something I wanted and something that many people would have given anything for. Her phrase was the best reminder!!

I love the idea of “having cool problems”. As humans, we will always have problems. I think the goal of the game is to get cool problems!

Being exhausted from doing your dream job, being overwhelmed by exciting opportunities, being challenged by big decisions are all cool problems. They are still problems but they are a blessing!
