Inspiration Is Our Emotional Nutrition
Inspiration is fuel for your emotional energy tank!
When I am uninspired, I feel flat. I lose interest in life. When you're inspired, you feel it physically. Your heart races, your eyes widen, your posture straightens. You feel alive, alert, and completely present.
I've always been fascinated by what lights people up. That sparkle in someone's eyes when they talk about something they love is one of the most beautiful energies to witness. It's contagious, magnetic and powerful.
The problem is that many of us have forgotten how to access inspiration regularly. We've become passive consumers rather than active seekers of what lights us up emotionally.
Here's how to reconnect with your inspiration sources:
Notice what makes you lean in.
When do you find yourself completely absorbed? When do you lose track of time? These moments are signposts pointing toward your natural inspiration sources.Create an inspiration library.
Collect quotes, images, music, or anything that reliably sparks your emotional energy. Have this library ready for days when inspiration feels distant. I love Pinterest Boards for collecting images that inspire me. I use my Notes file in my phone for collecting quotes and poems. I use Spotify for making inspiring playlists.Diversify your inspiration diet.
Different types of inspiration feed different parts of your emotional energy. Nature might ground you, while art might expand you. Human stories might connect you, while new ideas might challenge you. Asking people what or who they are currently inspired by is one of my favourite questions!Schedule inspiration dates.
Block time in your calendar specifically for activities that inspire you. Treat these appointments as seriously as you would any important meeting - because they are!Share what inspires you with others.
Talking about what lights you up amplifies its effect. Plus, inspiration is one of the few resources that multiplies when shared rather than diminishes.
Inspiration isn't just a nice-to-have luxury - it's essential emotional nutrition. Without regular doses of inspiration, our emotional energy becomes flat, dull, and depleted. Many of us make the mistake of waiting for inspiration to strike. But inspiration, like any energy source, needs to be actively cultivated. The most emotionally energised people I know are deliberate about seeking out what inspires them.
Your emotional energy is deeply connected to meaning and purpose. When you feel inspired, you're tapping into something that matters to you on a soul level. This alignment creates a powerful energetic resonance that can carry you through challenges and amplify your impact.
This week, pay attention to where your inspiration comes from. Notice what fills your emotional energy tank versus what depletes it. Then make a conscious choice to prioritize those inspiration sources.
