Winter Solstice
This Sunday is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. We are tilted furthest away from the Sun. It's a turning point! After this, daylight hours begin to increase again. It's a significant time. It might be the permission slip you have been waiting for!
We live in a culture obsessed with doing. With producing. With being on. And most of us have internalised that so deeply we feel guilty when we're not moving forward.
But nature doesn't work that way. And neither do we, naturally!
Winter is a contracted energy. It's not broken. It's not stagnant. It's intentional.
Under the ground right now there are seeds sitting in cold, dark soil. Not dead. Not lazy. Integrating. Preparing. Quietly becoming what they'll be when spring arrives.
That's what winter asks of us all.
When you move with the rhythm of winter rather than against it, something shifts. It's very potent.
The reflection you do now becomes the clarity you lead with in spring.
The rest you allow now becomes the fuel that powers your next chapter.
Winter for me means slowing down. Slower mornings and earlier nights.
It's a great time to ask yourself the questions you've been too busy to answer. What's working? What am I tolerating or doing begrudgingly?
What do I want the next season of my life to feel like?
It's an excellent time to nourish yourself. Properly. Lots of sleep and rest. Soft blankets and warm layers. Spices and soups. Giving your body what it needs.
Winter doesn't demand your output. It asks for your presence.
If you've been feeling slower, quieter, more internal lately, that's not a problem to fix. Your body is asking for alignment. Your nervous system knows what season it is, even when you pretend otherwise!
Take a moment. Light a candle. Reflect on the year so far. Acknowledge yourself and then allow yourself to soften and to rest. To be consciously gentle and kind to you!
The darkest night gives way to more light from here.
