Matariki

On Saturday, I attended a whāngai i te hautapu. A sacred ceremony to celebrate the beginning of Matariki. It was beautiful. Super early in the freezing cold we gathered. Now I fully understand that Matariki is not just a date on the calendar. It's a shift in energy.

The Māori new year is an ancient invitation: to stop, to look back, to gather, and to set intention for what comes next.

This weekend, that invitation is for you!

It's the energy of reflection. Of looking at where you've been without judgment. Of seeing what worked, what didn't, what you learned, what you're carrying.

It's the energy of gathering. Of bringing people together, whānau, community, the people who matter. Not for obligation. For genuine connection.

It's the energy of intention. Of deciding what you want to cultivate in the season ahead. What you want more of. What you're ready to release.

Reflect honestly. Take time alone this weekend to think about the year that’s been. What are you proud of? What do you wish you'd done differently? What surprised you? What are you grateful for? Don't make it a heavy exercise. Just notice.

Get clear on what you're calling in. Not what you think you should want. What do you actually want to create in the next season? More connection? More rest? More creativity? More impact? More presence? Get specific. Write it down.

Release what's not serving you. What are you carrying that's too heavy? What belief, habit, or obligation is draining you? What can you consciously let go of? You don't need to solve it or process it perfectly, just acknowledge it and release it.

This weekend is the perfect time to:

Look back. Reflect on the season. What happened? What did you learn? What are you grateful for?

Look inward. Get quiet. What do you actually want? What's true for you right now? What are you ready to release?

Look forward. Set an intention. One thing. One area where you want to contribute more intentionally, more fully, with more of your real energy. What are you calling in?

Celebrate. Be grateful for those who are riding sidecar in your life. Who are witnessing you.

We live in a culture that moves fast and never stops. We're constantly chasing the next thing, the next achievement, the next moment. This weekend, slow down. Gather. Reflect. Decide. Enjoy!
